Dental Implants Framingham

dental implantWhen a tooth is lost or can no longer be restored, replacing it is a functional and long-term decision. Your choice affects how you chew, how neighboring teeth respond over time, and the treatment process and cost.

Dr. Ali Maddahi evaluates your situation and explains whether an implant, bridge, or removable option is the best fit for your needs. At Orris Dental, you will work with Dr. Maddahi from evaluation through final restoration of your smile.

How Dental Implants Replace Missing Teeth

A dental implant is a three-part restoration:

  1. A titanium post is placed in the jawbone and integrates with the surrounding bone over several months.
  2. An abutment attaches to the post, then connects  to the final restoration,
  3. A crown, bridge, or denture is placed to restore function and appearance

Determining Whether an Implant Is Appropriate

An implant may not be right for every missing tooth. calls for an implant. Dr.Maddahi considers bone volume and density, gum health, bite alignment, the condition of neighboring teeth, and any active disease. CBCT imaging provides a 3D view of bone and surrounding anatomy to determine if an implant is appropriate.

Comparing Implants with Other Types of Tooth Replacement

Dental implants offer several practical advantages over bridges or removable appliances.
Independent Tooth Support
A single dental implant can support a replacement tooth without relying on the adjacent teeth for anchorage. Whether this approach is the best option depends on the health, position, and condition of the surrounding teeth.
Stable Chewing Function
Because the implant is anchored directly in the jawbone, it can provide a stable foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture. Many patients notice improved chewing comfort in the area where a tooth was missing.
Support a Healthy Jawbone
An implant transfers chewing forces to the jaw and may help preserve bone after tooth loss. The degree of preservation varies, and an implant does not guarantee that it will prevent all future bone changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Insufficient bone at the implant site does not automatically rule out treatment. In many cases, a bone graft can rebuild enough bone to support an implant, but the decision depends on a careful evaluation of the specific site.

How Dr. Maddahi Assesses Bone Loss

Dr. Maddahi performs a clinical examination and takes 3D CBCT scans to evaluate the height, width, and quality of the available bone.

The cause of bone loss, whether from infection, gum disease, trauma, or prolonged tooth absence, factors into the treatment approach

Imaging helps determine whether grafting can create adequate support or whether an alternative replacement is more appropriate.

What Bone Grafting Involves in Framingham

Dr. Maddahi places bone material—which may be synthetic or taken from you or a donor—at the deficient site to encourage new bone growth.

Healing takes place over the next several months as the graft forms a scaffold on which new bone can generate. Dr. Maddahi will reassess the situation after healing to determine if the graft has been successful and if we can proceed with implant placement.

Are You a Candidate for Bone Grafting?

If you have been told you lack sufficient bone for an implant, or if you lost a tooth some time ago and are now considering replacement, a thorough evaluation can clarify your options. Call Orris Dental in Framingham at (508) 270-6770 or book an appointment online.

We welcome patients from Natick, Sudbury, Wayland, Ashland, Marlborough, Southborough, Westborough, Hopkinton, Wellesley, and surrounding Metro West areas.

Dental Implant Treatment Process

Implant treatment takes place over several stages. The overall timeline depends on healing, whether grafting is needed, and the restoration's complexity.

  • Complete the examination, imaging, and treatment planning.
  • Address any active dental or periodontal disease.
  • Perform bone grafting when needed.
  • Place the implant surgically.
  • Allow healing and integration with the jawbone.
  • Attach the abutment and place the final restoration.
  • Begin ongoing maintenance and monitoring.

The process requires multiple appointments over several months. Swelling, soreness, and temporary diet changes may follow surgery. A temporary tooth may be possible depending on the location and clinical circumstances, but cannot be promised in every case.

Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants

Implant treatment is a significant investment. Costs vary depending on the number of implants, whether bone grafting is needed, and the type of restoration. Our team can verify your insurance benefits and provide a written estimate after evaluation. We also offer flexible payment and financing options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all implant patients need a bone graft?

No. We recommend bone grafting only when the implant site lacks enough bone to support stable placement. We evaluate the area clinically and with three-dimensional imaging before determining whether grafting is necessary and when to do it.

Will I have a tooth while my implant heals?

Temporary replacement options may be available depending on the location of the missing tooth, the condition of the site, implant stability, bite forces, and appearance concerns. We will discuss temporary options during treatment planning so you know what to expect during the healing period.

Dental Implants Technology

CBCT Cone Beam Technology

Planning a successful dental implant or evaluating jaw joint concerns requires a clear, complete picture of your oral anatomy. CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) technology gives Dr. Maddahi exactly that: a precise 3D image of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses all at once. This level of detail improves treatment planning, so there are fewer surprises and better outcomes for you.

The scan itself is quick and comfortable. You simply sit or stand still for less than a minute while the scanner captures a full 3D view of the area being evaluated. There are no uncomfortable impressions or lengthy procedures involved.

Beyond implant planning, CBCT imaging supports a range of diagnostic needs. Dr. Maddahi uses these detailed scans to assess the jaw joints when temporomandibular joint (TMJ) concerns are present and to evaluate the airway for patients being assessed for sleep apnea. Having this technology in-house means you receive more thorough, informed care right here in our office.
