Framingham Emergency Dentist

Dental emergencies are often painful, sometimes scary, and always inconvenient. If you have significant dental pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or a damaged restoration, call Orris Dental for help. We offer same-day emergency appointments when the schedule permits, and we always welcome new patients for emergencies Monday through Thursday.

Our priority is to get you out of pain and on your way to recovery as quickly and conveniently as possible. Dr. Ali Maddahi will find the source of the problem, relieve the immediate concern, and identify the treatment needed to prevent further damage and help you feel better.

What to Expect When You Call

When you call with an urgent concern, you will speak with a team member who will ask about your symptoms and when they started. Same-day appointments may be available, and calling early in the day improves your chances of being seen promptly. After hours, you can leave a message for a response on the next business day.

When to Call for Emergency Dental Care

Several dental situations call for prompt evaluation. If you are unsure whether your concern is urgent, call the office, and the team can help you determine the appropriate next step.
Severe or Worsening Pain
Persistent tooth pain, pain that disrupts sleep, or increasing sensitivity may indicate decay, infection, a crack, or another condition requiring examination. Pain that worsens over hours or days should be evaluated rather than left to resolve on its own.
Swelling or Possible Infection
Swelling in the gums, face, or jaw should receive prompt attention, particularly when accompanied by fever, difficulty opening the mouth, or feeling generally unwell. Early evaluation helps determine the source and the most appropriate response.
Dental Injury or Damage
A broken, loosened, or knocked-out tooth requires prompt evaluation. Call Orris Dental as soon as possible if a filling, crown, or bridge has broken or come loose and the underlying tooth is painful, sensitive, or exposed.

Finding the Cause of the Problem

dentist showing patient their digital xraysDr. Maddahi reviews your symptoms, how the problem began, relevant health information, and any recent injury or dental treatment. He examines the area and may take digital x-rays when imaging will affect the diagnosis or treatment plan.

Once he identifies the source, Dr. Maddahi shows you the relevant findings and explains whether the condition requires immediate treatment, temporary stabilization, monitoring, or referral. He reviews the available options and their limitations. When circumstances allow, the team provides an estimate before treatment begins.

Immediate Care and Definitive Treatment

Treatment depends on the cause of the problem. Emergency care may include repairing a damaged filling, protecting a fractured tooth, recementing or replacing a restoration, treating infection at its source, beginning root canal treatment, or removing a tooth that cannot be predictably restored.

Some patients notice improvement after immediate treatment, while others may need staged care or time for inflammation to resolve. Dr. Maddahi explains the expected timeline and provides a referral when specialist care is needed.

Digital X-Rays and Sensors

Digital x-rays are one of the most valuable tools we use to understand what's happening inside your mouth. Unlike traditional film x-rays, digital sensors capture detailed images of your teeth, roots, and surrounding bone in seconds. They also emit significantly less radiation, making them a healthier choice for you and your family.

Dr. Maddahi uses these images to detect cavities between teeth, evaluate the fit of crowns and fillings, and monitor bone levels in patients with gum disease. Because the images appear on screen right away, he can walk you through exactly what he sees and explain his recommendations in a way that makes sense to you. When you understand your oral health, you can make more confident decisions about your care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I still call if my toothache goes away?

Dental pain can stop temporarily even when the underlying problem remains. A cracked tooth, deep decay, or damaged nerve may still need treatment. Contact Orris Dental for guidance if the pain was severe, recurring, or occurred with swelling or sensitivity.

What should I do if my child knocks out a tooth?

If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown rather than the root, keep it moist in milk or saliva, and seek dental care immediately. Timing affects the likelihood of successful replantation. Do not reinsert a primary tooth. Contact Orris Dental for guidance on whether the child needs to be seen.
