We have started you off with a selection of frequently asked questions, and we invite you to call us at (508) 270-6770 if you have something on your mind that you don't see here.
Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment
Gum disease begins as gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums caused by bacterial plaque building up along the gumline. Gingivitis is typically reversible with improved oral hygiene and professional care, and it does not inevitably progress.
However, when inflammation persists and risk factors are present, it can develop into periodontitis, which affects the bone and connective tissue that support your teeth.
Key Risk Factors for Gum Disease
- Inconsistent brushing and interdental cleaning
- Tobacco use
- Diabetes
- Genetic susceptibility
- Certain medications that affect gum tissue
- Infrequent professional dental care
Reducing Your Risk
- Brush twice daily and clean between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes.
- Schedule regular professional examinations and cleanings
- Avoid tobacco products
- Manage diabetes and other systemic conditions
- Seek treatment promptly if your gums bleed, swell, or recede
We can help control periodontitis and preserve your remaining support; however, bone and support that have already been lost cannot simply be restored. Early intervention offers the best opportunity to keep the disease from advancing.
